At Northern Quality Dental, we strive to provide excellent dentistry for our patients in a comfortable environment. Dr. Seymour and Dr. White are committed to provide all aspects of dentistry to their patients. Below you will find a list of the services offered at Northern Quality Dental as well as appropriate informational links to the ADA website, the AGD website and others. All you have to do is click on the links!
We proudly provide high quality care for everybody from the little kids to teens to moms and dads to grandmas and grandpas!
Even though we don't have them for as long baby teeth are just as important as permanent teeth. Every parent should know how to care for their child's teeth to avoid decay.
For patients of record only, Northern Quality Dental offers our patients an after-hours dental emergency "hotline". Please call (231)920-9433 and leave a message. Michelle, the office coordinator, and/or Dr. Seymour or Dr. White, will return your phone call as soon as possible to discuss your emergency.
At Northern Quality Dental, our patients value their oral health and we insist on helping them maintain it. Our hygienists (Brian and Kim) provide a thorough exam, perio probing, and cleaning based upon your prescribed schedule (usually six months). At recall visits, our hygienists will also perform a head and neck cancer prevention screening. Drs. Seymour and White will diagnose decay (if any) and prescribe treatment if necessary as well as address any concerns the patient or the hygienist may have.
If you are diagnosed with periodontal disease (bone loss), your cleanings are more involved and will require more frequent visits. However, the disease can be managed with good oral hygiene and regular professional cleanings. Please read the information below.
Periodontal Disease and Cardiovascular Disease
At Northern Quality Dental, we offer our patients the choice of composites (tooth-colored fillings) or amalgams (silver fillings). We agree with the ADA and AGD's findings that amalgam is a safe and effective restorative material.
Notice to ALL Patients with Treatment Plans Including Restorations
Northern Quality Dental always strives to deliver the highest quality care to their patients. Some patients choose to have composites ("tooth-colored" fillings) instead of amalgams ("silver" fillings) in their back teeth. We would like all of our patients to know that composites have a higher fee than amalgams due to a higher cost of the materials and longer procedure time.
We would also like all of our insured patients to know that most insurance companies only pay what they would have paid for a silver filling and the difference will be your responsibility. If you have any questions concerning your co-pay, you can check with Michelle.
Note to Parents:
Dr. Seymour and Dr. White generally place silver fillings in children unless the parents request otherwise. However, some cavities may be small and placing an amalgam would necessitate removing healthy tooth structure. Dr. Seymour and Dr. White will do their best to judge which type of restoration would be best at time of diagnosis, so that we will be able to determine your co-pay accurately. Please remember to ask if you have any questions. Anyone in the office is able to either answer your questions completely and thoroughly or determine which person would best answer your question.
We offer our patients the choice of gold, porcelain fused to metal, and all ceramic crowns. Dr. Seymour and Dr. White will work with you to determine which type would be the best for you. You can also read about crowns, bridges and comparison of materials.
Procera Alumina and Procera Zirconia offer you two proven all-ceramic restorations that combine the vital, translucent esthetics of an all-ceramic with the strength and durability of a PFM. The Procera system provides two levels of core selection and material strength.
Procera Alumina is composed of densely sintered high-purity aluminum oxide that is available in two layers of thickness for anteriors and posteriors. Procera Zirconia, made of yttria stabilized zirconium (YSZ), provides almost twice the strength of the original alumina. In addition, it can be placed anywhere in the mouth and can accommodate bridges up to 14 units.
Captek crowns: The Captek Crown is the result of 30 years of research by an internationally renowned Prosthodontist and world-class dental technician, with the sole purpose of developing the best restoration to offer their own patients. For centuries, gold has been known as the preferred material for dental restorations. Captek's advanced technology combines all the advantages of high-purity gold, without sacrificing the strength of lower gold dental materials. Years of research and patient satisfaction have proven that Captek crowns are durable, accurate, resistant to harmful bacteria and plaque, and - what will be most obvious to you, the patient - attractive. Finally, compromises need not be made to achieve a beautiful and healthy smile.

In some cases, mini implants are ideal for single tooth replacement as well. Ask Dr. Seymour!

Dr. Seymour and Dr. White are proud to offer in-house root canal therapy for their patients. Dr. Seymour and Dr. White use rotary files which makes the procedure quicker and gives a great final result.
Dr. Seymour and Dr. White are also proud to offer in-house extractions including most wisdom tooth extractions.
Post op instructions can be found on the forms page of the website.
If you notice that the pain increases three to five days after an extraction, you may have a dry socket and should call the office to make an appointment as soon as possible.
Your smile is very important. Let Dr. Seymour or Dr White improve your smile with the cosmetic dentistry that is right for you.
If you have lost multiple or all of your teeth, you may require dentures or removable partial dentures.
Remember, just because you have a denture doesn't mean that you don't have to see your dentist anymore and that you don't have to take care of your "new teeth." You must learn to properly care for your denture to ensure a better fit and healthy mouth. You must continue to have yearly visits to your dentist for oral cancer screenings as well.
Northern Quality Dental does not offer orthodontics. However, we will work with your orthodontist to ensure the best final result. You have the right to choose which orthodontist you would like to see. If you do not have a preference, we proudly refer our patients to Swelstad Orhodontics with Dr. Swelstad.
Conventional implants are the most natural form of tooth replacement. Currently, Dr. Seymour and Dr. White do not offer placement of the implant body in office but they do restore them and can answer any question you have about them. They will work with you to see which specialist would be right for you. We hope to offer the placement soon.
Nitrous oxide or "laughing gas" is a sedative that is administered with oxygen to calm patients during dental appointments. Patients still may require local injections to be completely comfortable. There are very few risks involved with using nitrous oxide. The most common complication is nausea. This is rare, but can happen. At the end of the appointment, nitrous oxide is flushed out of the system with pure oxygen. Patients can resume normal activities immediately, unlike using oral sedatives. We offer nitrous oxide to our pediatric patients (under 12) as a courtesy. However, due to the high cost of nitrous oxide and the greater consumption, there is a nominal fee for older children and adults.
Foundation is a revolutionary bone augmentation material for use after teeth extractions. Collagen-based, it provides support for implants, bridges, and dentures. Immediately following an extraction, Foundation is placed into the socket. The surrounding cells and capillaries gradually infiltrate Foundation. As the extraction socket heals, it is filled with new augmented bone. You can click on the link below to see the patient education brochure courtesy of the makers of Foundation. Ask Dr. Seymour or Dr. White if this procedure would be right for you.
Please call us to set up an appointment to learn more about improving your smile and overall health!
